History

Little is known about Benjamin Dunn’s origins. Legend tells of a traveling wordsmith that would mosey into town with nothing but paper and chewed up pencils. He’d make his clients famous, and then leave in the middle of the night. Some even say that he was born with two right sides for a brain.

What we do know is Ben Dunn did every idea that could possibly be done before the turn of the century. He started the viral craze with his own subservient hen named Blanch, who traveled the countryside and laid eggs on demand for astonished townsfolk before collapsing from exhaustion. Ben also created the world’s first branded content when he hired the famous inventor Bartimus Thadius to produce long-form zoetrope animations featuring a certain make of high performance buggies. They played in nickelodeons everywhere. He even started the celebrity athlete phenomena, by getting the Boston Beaneaters baseball team to endorse "Civilian Sports Trousers". From consumer-generated content, to Interactive advertising, to simple product placement, Ben Dunn did it. His list of accomplishments is endless.

The Ben Dunn Library is the definitive archive of his works. A treasure trove of inspiration from one of advertising’s most innovative, yet least appreciated personalities. We hope you enjoy your visit, and that from this day on, you remember to always give Ben the slash.
